  • Your safety is our top priority. We work with trusted local partners and experienced guides to ensure a secure and smooth journey. Traveling through high altitudes and the Amazon rainforest presents unique challenges, including altitude adjustment and insect-borne illnesses like malaria. We recommend consulting your doctor about necessary vaccinations and preventive measures. Using insect repellent and protective clothing is essential in the jungle.

Comprehensive travel insurance with medical and evacuation coverage is required. Extensive health and safety information will be provided in your pre-trip materials to help you prepare thoroughly and travel confidently.

  • This 12-day journey through Peru includes moderate physical activity and travel through dramatically varied environments, from high-altitude Andean towns to the humid lowland rainforest. You’ll begin in Lima (sea level) before ascending to Cusco (~11,200 ft) and the Sacred Valley (~9,400 ft), where thin air and lower oxygen levels may require time to acclimate. Activities include walking on uneven Inca stone paths, moderate hikes, and occasional uphill climbs. Later in the journey, you’ll descend into the lush Amazon basin, where the climate shifts to warm, humid, and at times buggy conditions, with rainforest trails that can be muddy or slippery. While no technical trekking is involved, a solid level of mobility, balance, and stamina will help you fully enjoy the experience.

  • Peru’s diverse geography means you’ll experience a range of climates on this journey. In Lima and the coast, expect mild, often overcast conditions with temperatures between 60–75°F (16–24°C). In the Sacred Valley and Cusco, days are typically sunny and dry with highs around 65–75°F (18–24°C) and cooler nights that can dip to 40°F (4°C)—especially at higher elevations.

As you enter the Amazon rainforest in Manu, the climate becomes hot and humid, with daytime temperatures reaching 80–90°F (27–32°C) and occasional afternoon showers. Lightweight, breathable clothing, layers, and good rain gear will help you stay comfortable across this beautifully varied landscape.

  • Yes! We’re happy to assist with booking one pre- or post-night hotel stay if you’d like to arrive early or extend your journey. Please let us know your plans so we can arrange accommodations.

  • Most travelers from the US, Canada, EU, Australia, and many other countries do not need a visa for stays under 90 days. Always check current entry requirements before traveling.

  • All gratuities for lodge staff, local guides, and drivers are included in your TerraFauna package—so no need to tip separately.

The only exception is your dedicated TerraFauna guide. We recommend $20 USD per person, per day as a token of appreciation for their personalized service and expertise throughout your journey.

  • The official currency in Peru is the Peruvian Sol (PEN). Most major cities, tourist areas, and lodges accept credit and debit cards, but cash is essential for smaller towns & villages, markets, tips, and some local vendors.

It’s best to carry a mix of cash and cards. You can withdraw Peruvian soles from ATMs in cities like Lima and Cusco just check with your bank about foreign transaction fees and notify them before traveling. U.S. dollars are sometimes accepted in tourist areas but may get a less favorable exchange rate.

We recommend bringing enough cash for daily expenses and tips, and using cards for larger purchases when possible. Always keep money and valuables secure while traveling.

  • Yes! We can arrange this itinerary as a private departure for up to 8 people. Contact us to discuss your group’s preferences, pricing, and the specific deposit and cancellation terms.

  • Booking as “willing to share” means you’ll reserve your spot at the double occupancy rate, agreeing to share a room with another traveler of the same gender you don’t know.

If no roommate match is found by 120 days before departure, you’ll be charged the single supplement fee.

  • Yes. All travelers on this itinerary must be at least 13 years old at the time of travel. This age requirement ensures that participants can comfortably take part in the activities and fully enjoy the experience.
