Conservation Spotlights:

Tortuguero National Park: Home to one of the most important sea turtle nesting sites in the world, including endangered species like leatherbacks and green turtles. The ongoing conservation efforts of the Tortuguero Sea Turtle Conservancy play a critical role in protecting these ancient creatures and their habitats.

Corcovado National Park: Known as one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, Corcovado is home to endangered species such as the jaguar, puma, and Baird's tapir. Conservation programs here focus on preserving the tropical rainforest and protecting vulnerable wildlife.

Caño Island Biological Reserve: This marine reserve is a hotspot for marine life, including manta rays, sea turtles, and colorful reef fish. It plays a crucial role in protecting the health of Costa Rica’s marine ecosystems and its endangered marine species.

Rio Celeste & Tenorio Volcano National Park: The park’s ecosystems, including the stunning Rio Celeste waterfall, are vital for preserving Costa Rica’s diverse flora and fauna. Conservation efforts focus on maintaining the delicate balance of the volcanic watershed and protecting its rich biodiversity, including endangered bird species like the resplendent quetzal.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Costa Rica - Santa Barbara de Heredia

Accommodation: Gran Hotel Costa Rica

Arrive in Costa Rica and enjoy a seamless airport transfer to your first destination, Santa Barbara de Heredia. After clearing customs and immigration, meet your guide who will brief you on your Costa Rica adventure focused on wildlife and conservation. The evening is yours to relax and enjoy the first flavors of Costa Rican culture.

Day 2: Explore Tortuguero National Park

Accommodation: Manatus Tortugeuro

Set off early in the morning for a scenic boat ride through the Tortuguero National Park canals. As you glide through lush rainforest, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, and toucans. Tortuguero is a significant eco-tourism destination in Costa Rica, renowned for its sea turtle conservation efforts. Upon arrival, settle into your eco-lodge, Tortuga Lodge & Gardens, and prepare for a guided nature walk where you will experience firsthand the incredible biodiversity of this region.

Day 3: Wildlife Exploration in Tortuguero

Accommodation: Manatus Tortugeuro

Tortuguero National Park, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. Spot wildlife including capuchin monkeys, spider monkeys, and various bird species like herons and kingfishers. After lunch, take a leisurely walk through Tortuguero village to explore the culture of this isolated town.

Day 4: Travel to Corcovado National Park

Accommodation: SCP Corcovado Wilderness Lodge

Journey to the Osa Peninsula and Corcovado National Park. Fly from Tortuguero to the South Pacific, where you’ll be welcomed by the lush, untouched landscapes of Corcovado National Park. Known for its incredible biodiversity, Corcovado is often considered one of the most biologically intense places on Earth. After settling into your lodge, SCP Corcovado Wilderness Lodge, enjoy the stunning views and prepare for a wildlife-filled journey.

Day 5: Marine Conservation at Caño Island

Accommodation: SCP Corcovado Wilderness Lodge

Snorkel at Caño Island Biological Reserve. Spend your day exploring Caño Island, one of the most biodiverse marine environments in Costa Rica. Known for its vibrant coral reefs and crystal-clear waters, it is a protected marine reserve. During your snorkeling tour, you’ll encounter marine life like manta rays, sea turtles, and vibrant fish species. Afterward, return to Corcovado for a relaxing evening at your lodge.

Day 6: Wildlife Trekking in Corcovado

Day 8: Tapir Valley and Night Hike in Tenorio

Explore Tapir Valley and Enjoy a Night Wildlife Hike. This morning, visit Tapir Valley in the private nature reserve to discover a world of wildlife. The valley is home to Baird’s tapir, howler monkeys, and hundreds of plant species. In the evening, embark on a nocturnal hike to discover the creatures that come alive after dark, such as frogs, owls, and nocturnal mammals.

Day 9: Adventure at Rio Celeste and Tenorio Volcano

Today, experience Rio Celeste, known for its iconic blue waters and natural beauty. Hike the trails of Tenorio Volcano National Park and encounter stunning views, tropical wildlife, and peaceful surroundings. Enjoy the serenity of the park and its breathtaking scenery.

Day 10: Departure — Farewell to Costa Rica

After a leisurely breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your return flight. Take home unforgettable memories of your Costa Rican wildlife adventure, having experienced some of the world’s most incredible ecosystems and conservation efforts.

Trail Ready: What to Expect Physically

This itinerary combines rainforest hikes, wildlife encounters, coastal exploration, and snorkeling in pristine waters with moments of relaxation and luxury. You’ll experience daily walks on uneven forest trails, moderate hikes of 2–4 hours, and gentle boat rides through canals. Snorkeling sessions require basic swimming ability and comfort in open water.

Terrain varies and may include muddy paths, stairs, and elevation changes, especially in national parks like Tortuguero. While no advanced fitness level is necessary, you should be comfortable walking up to 3 miles per day at a steady pace and able to embark and disembark boats easily.

This journey invites you to engage your body and senses in nature’s diverse environments—balancing active exploration with ample time to unwind and enjoy the stunning surroundings.

Standard Cancellation Terms

  • 121+ days (4+ months) prior to departure: A $200 cancellation fee per person will apply.

  • 61–120 days (2–4 months) prior to departure: 50% of the total trip cost, including internal flights, pre/post extensions, and added services (e.g. additional hotel nights), will be non-refundable.

  • 60 days or fewer prior to departure: Unfortunately, we are unable to offer any refunds at this stage due to our financial commitments to local partners and accommodations.

Deposit Policy

  • All trip deposits and payments are non-refundable.

  • For fully private bookings (e.g., you reserve an entire departure), deposits are double the standard rate and remain non-refundable.

Special Note on Deposits & Cancellation Policy

This journey requires a non-refundable deposit of $1,000 USD per person, in addition to the total trip cost. This deposit secures your space on the itinerary and covers the cost of non-refundable, non-transferable permits. Please note that this policy differs from our standard terms, due to the unique nature of the experiences and conservation access included in this itinerary.

Travel Insurance Requirement

Because our trips venture into remote, wild, and weather-sensitive areas, comprehensive travel insurance is required for all travelers. This must include coverage for trip cancellation, interruption, emergency medical needs, and evacuation. We recommend purchasing travel insurance at the time of booking to maximize your coverage window. If you have any questions about this policy, we’re happy to assist.
